Tell us about your work with seabirds.
My work involves using telemetry and other technologies (GPS, GLS, TDR) to answer questions on seabird movement and foraging ecology and the potential impacts of environmental change on these vital processes.
What advice would you offer to individuals aspiring to pursue a career as seabird scientists?
The world of seabird research can be hard to get into but well worth the initial struggle and rejections. Keep building relationships and developing ideas. Explore the different avenues to securing a PhD position. You may come across a fully funded project, you may write a proposal for your own idea with an established researcher who's research is of interest to you or you may find yet another way of getting into seabird research. It may take years and it is a competitive field but there are opportunities!
