Tell us about your work with seabirds.

I'm the Assistant Research Coordinator with Earthcare St Kilda, a non_for_profit based in Melbourne, Australia. My work centres on the Little Penguin colony living on the St Kilda breakwater, where I divide my time between our research programs counting penguin rafts as they return home each evening and carrying out hands_on monitoring of the colony.

What advice would you offer to individuals aspiring to pursue a career as seabird scientists?

My advice would be to put yourself out there, volunteer and take opportunities that come your way. I started with Earthcare St Kilda as a volunteer penguin guide in 2019 and my career snowballed from there. Maintaining connections is also helpful, you never know where or who your next opportunity will come from.
